Arrive and off for a coffee and gingernuts. Usually a time to talk with Steve and a few others on issues of the day. With the lap top I also view the Herald, read gmails, logon to groupwise (wireless) read mail, check vox for latest
postings. Update tweets and talk about the "have you seens..."
Then off to class starting at 0800 hrs. Usally arriving there at 0750. By this time students are allready working away,
I check in with most and welcome the rest as they arrive. Most seem to be on time with several coming in when they can, as they have other commitments to attend to first.
"Gather round" I ask, this is met with exceptance, "So what was one important thing from yesterday that springs to mind?" Starting from the right today and working around to the left.... Each student gives up a concern or a question.... others agree.. or are asked to help out with their experiences on each topic/question.
More arrive and join the group... "welcome we have been talking about...." sometimes I give up a brief overview... this I have found allows the new commers time to gather their thoughts and relate what happened for them as well.
A bit of an overview of expectations for the day comes next. Writing this now on the circluar blackboards, this seems to help focus some student for what lies ahead. Introducing terms used that explain items or proceedures as well.
Many students copy these...by photos.. on phones, cameras or copy by hand. Making the link between the word/sketch/task/process/topic....
For many the hand skills used in creating an object, are very hard to master and yet some take these objects and create these virtual in 3D using CAD. But for some this is a first hand skill creation for them...
"Smoko" is the call, with one student he has input this timing into his phone and he lets us all know when....
After the break another "Gather round" but this time the talking stick is being used... the team now know the rules when using this.... Another write up on the blackboard and question and answer disscussion time... some now drift off and continue with their tasks, while others look and see or ask for one on ones and demos.
After a demos last week I asked.. "Do you wish me to continue doing demos when I see the need to, or you ask me to show how I would?" Most agreed that the demos are well worthwhile. The phones are out capturing these, also the cameras. With one student also having a projector in his phone... we all gather round and watch... comments are now coming thick and fast....

Several of these students have degrees with many also well practiced in the use of e technology... but for some this is also a first... Good to see this reflected in many of their blogs...
More to come..... and this is all happening in this group in a usual day.... in fact before lunch...
